about

Marcello Massari (*1997) is a guitarist, researcher and educator whose work integrates performance, historical research, and multimedia languages.

His artistic career has developed between Italy and Switzerland. He trained at the Conservatorio T. Schipa in Lecce and the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Turin, where he earned his Diploma with honors under the guidance of Dora Filippone. During his studies in 2020, he was awarded a scholarship from the De Sono Foundation. He continued his education at the Bern Academy of the Arts, pursuing a Master of Arts in Classical Music Performance with Elena Càsoli. There, he deepened his expertise in contemporary repertoire, both as a soloist and chamber musician, and had the opportunity to work directly with composers such as Beat Furrer, Matthew Suttor, and Irene Galindo Quero.

His concert activity includes performances as a soloist and in various chamber ensembles, most notably ibriDuo with Irene Marzadori (cello) and Duo Actuelle with Matteo Appendino (guitar).

Parallel to his performing career, Marcello leads a research project on the guitar in the Mitteleuropean region during the early 20th century, focusing on the rediscovery of the Viennese composer Arthur Johannes Scholz (1883-1945). This work has led to significant editorial and recording collaborations: he is the editor of the revised editions of Scholz's guitar works (based on original manuscripts) for Pizzicato Verlag Helvetia, and a dedicated album is forthcoming with the Da Vinci Publishing label.

Marcello also holds a degree in Cinema and Media Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino (IT). This background informs his artistic practice, where he creates original animations and videos for both concert and educational purposes.

He is currently a teacher at Guitare Actuelle in Turin (IT), where he develops various outreach projects, such as “MatheMusic”— a program designed for children and teenagers to explore the link between music and science — and “Prendi Nota!”, a podcast offering an innovative perspective on the world of music.
